Unlike typical wood fillers, Sculpwood Putty is a 100% solids epoxy putty compound. The 100% solids content is what makes Sculpwood Putty an exceptional product for the permanent repair of exterior wood components. However, this same characteristic prevents wood stains from readily penetrating into the putty. With that said, good results can be achieved through proper sanding and using medium to darker pigmented stains.
Sand the putty in the direction of the wood grain using 80-100 grit sandpaper. The courser grit opens up the Sculpwood Putty so that it can to some extent absorb the stain. Dab the stain onto the surface of the putty and carefully wipe off the excess stain. If the stain is too light, more can be applied once the first coat has dried.
