End grain and highly porous woods like white oak have a tendency to absorb resin which can starve the joint and lead to weak bond. This can be avoided by 2 methods.
- Applying a liberal coat of epoxy to the surface then let sit for 30-40 minuets. If dull spots appear, apply more epoxy before closing the joint.
- Sealing the wood with a thin coat of epoxy and allow to cure overnight. then sand and clean the surface before bonding with an epoxy adhesive.
